Phase out of EV…, EW… and EWA series lighting fixtures

Low-bay and High-bay for traditional bulbs available until the end of December

Introduction

Cortem Group says goodbye to Low-bay and High-bay lighting fixtures for traditional and discharge bulbs which have now become inefficient both as a production technology and as a light source.

Born in the 1970s together with Cortem S.p.A., the EV, EW and EWA series have for decades satisfied the different lighting needs of plants with risk of explosion and fire thanks to the multiplicity of light sources, powers and types of mounting systems available. The choice now goes in favor of the most efficient and technologically advanced lighting fixtures with LED technology, whose offer is now able to replace all the models in phase out.

This decision will allow us to have a catalog with products with higher energy savings and therefore with better environmental sustainability. Furthermore, the reduction of catalog codes will allow customers to choose, easily and quickly, the product that best meets their needs and Cortem to offer technologically advanced products more quickly, improving the customer service.

LED vs traditional lamps: the advantages

The LED (Light Emitter Diode) has revolutionized the way of designing and manufacturing lighting equipment suitable for hazardous environments with presence of gas or dust. As consequence, the Ex manufacturers had to completely renew the construction range.

Cortem Group has been designing and manufacturing for several years LED lighting equipment and it is constantly pursuing the search for new high-performance LEDs, conforming to the new dictates in terms of security and in full respect of regulations specific to explosive atmospheres. The use of adequate LED lighting fixtures allows for numerous advantages, as we have already detailed in previous technical articles; these include energy savings, lower maintenance costs, longer life and better overall efficiency.

In fact, a discharge lamp of 400 W can be replaced with LEDs with a power of 160 W, with an energy saving of about 60%.

Among the undoubted advantages it is necessary to include the lower management and maintenance costs; it is well-known that a discharge lamp has an average life ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 hours, after which it ceases to function, while an LED lamp has an average life of 50,000-100,000 hours and does not stop working, but only loses luminous efficiency, thus guaranteeing an illuminance, even if with a lower luminous flux.

The emission of cold light, not in the sense of color temperature (which can be both "hot" and "cold") but of diffused heat, is indicative of their high efficiency (equal to 75%), since it shows that the spent energy is converted almost entirely into useful light instead of turning into heat.

What’s new?

All models of the EV ..., EW ... and EWA series lighting fixtures will be available while stocks last and no later than 31 December 2020 with the exception of the EV ... -5050 and 5060 models with 'Ex d' and 'Ex de' protection methods which will continue to be available for the installation of LED bulbs.

All models in phase out can be replaced with the most efficient and technologically advanced LED lighting fixtures EVML series (also available for low voltage) and EVL series available in a new, innovative and enhanced model with LED plate.
